Restoration project of the Eastern Wing of the
General Staff Building is a result of joint initiatives of the
State Hermitage and the Government of the Russian Federation.
The project is financed by the Government of the Russian Federation
and by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development

The first stage of restoration was completed
in December of 2010.
The budget of the first stage of the project was 4.2 billion rubles.
The total area restored in the course of the first stage was 32,500 square meters.
The deadline for the completion of the second stage of restoration
is the second quarter of 2013.
The cost of the project is 6.5 billion rubles.

The General Staff Building is one of the most
famous monuments of architecture of St Petersburg (1820-1830,
architect Carlo Rossi). Until the February Revolution the building
housed higher governmental institutions of the Russian Empire.
