The most important person in the exhibition is the visitor,
who has to find their place between the Hermitage's marble classical
sculptures and modern metal sculptures. A person's scale, proportions,
real and ideal, and place in the world are the questions the
visitor is posed. This exhibition is a special project created
by the British sculptor Antony Gormley (born 1950) for two spaces
in the Classical World permanent exhibition, the Dionysus Hall
and the Ancient Courtyard. Nine classical sculptures stand in
silent dialogue with seventeen new sculptures in front of the
viewer, who, for a second, freezes in front of them and becomes
a statue.
