Prince of Siam Valpakorn (Mom-Chau)

DENAR Photo studio

On lower left corner of the front of the photograph, there is an inscription in ink: Valpakorn 1917. On the right lower corner of the proprietary passe-partout there is the stamp of the photo studio: DENAR. On the back of the passe-partout there is an in inscription: (partly erased)...Do not forget your...Valpakorn 11 June 1917.

The Prince of Siam Valpakorn arrived in Russia in 1904. He graduated from the Pages Corps (1904-1909) and then from the Military Medical Academy (1909-1914) which conferred on him the "doctor's degree with distinction." From the very first month of the war, he was a commissioned officer in the Russian Army with rank of captain and he served in the hospitals of the South-Western front and in Warsaw. In September 1915, he was assigned to the hospital in the Winter Palace and a junior attending physician. He was awarded the Order of St Anne, 3rd degree in 1916 (Russian State Historical Archive).
