What an orchestra! The perfection of intonations and the unity of the ensemble,
technical virtuosity and absolute confidence of performance
and conduction make one recall the great times of Evgeniy Mravisnky. Owing
to perfect performances full of beauty and elegance the St Petersburg
Camerata Orchestra rightly claims to be called the best chamber orchestra
in the world.
The orchestra, originally known as the Leningrad Conservatory student
orchestra, was established in 1989 by Saulus Sondetskis, a famous conductor,
People's Artist of the USSR, holder of the USSR State Prizes, winner of the first
prize and Gold Medal of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation competition.
Maestro Sandetskis, the founder of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra,
created another orchestra that inherited the conductor's enormous experience,
his exquisite musical taste, creative courage, desire for experiments
and at the same time respect for the best traditions of orchestra music,
attractive performance manner and high professionalism. It did not take
it long for St Petersburg Camerata to become one of the best chamber orchestras
in Russia.
February 14, 1994 the St Petersburg Camerata Ochestra was awarded a unique
status of the official orchestra of one of the largest museums in the world,
the State Hermitage.
The ensemble toured in many countries of the world, among others in Japan
(main guest conductor being Eiske Fujino). The orchestra also took part
in a number of international festivals and recorded several CDs (Sony
Classical being one of the recording companies). The orchestra performed
together with the greatest musicians, such as Sir Iehudi Menuhin, Mstislav
Rostropovich, Viktor Tretyakov, Sergey Stadler, Nikolai Gedda, Barbara
Bonney.
